Today's release of the WattIQ Cloud system introduces a mechanism for grouping assets and referring to those groups throughout the system. This allows organizations to create sets of similar assets and quickly use them in reports, visualizing raw data, or to narrow the focus of most components of the application. Each user can also select a "favorite" asset group, and by default most views in the system will display those assets -- while retaining the easy ability to see all assets or switch between groups.
This capability is organized under a new top-level menu, "Assets", which will be the central location in our system for managing information about your equipment. "Assets" refers to your equipment and devices, while "Hardware" continues to be the menu location for managing WattIQ sensors and gateways. The management of asset Labels (data and metadata about your equipment, such as manufacturer, location, etc) also moves in this release to live under the new Assets menu.
Creating and Editing Asset Groups
Under the Assets menu, under the subtab Groups, you can create a new Asset Group, edit existing groups, view their membership, and select a "Favorite Group" for your own use (each user can have their own, different, favorite group).
Creating a new Asset Group is simple. Provide a name for the group, and then use the familiar Filters to select the attributes which select the right group of assets. As you choose filter categories, your asset selections will narrow down and be reflected in the list at the bottom. By default, when you select multiple filter categories, the asset list is composed of those assets which match "All filters", but you can select disjoint sets by clicking the radio button for "At least one filter". When you are satisfied with the group membership, hit "Save".
The Asset Group you created is dynamic -- since it is defined by filter criteria, if you add more equipment to your installation that "fits" the group membership, it will show up automatically in the Asset Group, so you do not have to worry about manually maintaining your group memberships.
Editing your Asset Groups is identical to creating them. Hit edit, adjust your filters, and save the group again.
Using Asset Groups Everywhere
Asset groups, once created, are available throughout the application to scope your reports, views, and make it simple to quickly visualize raw data for a group of devices. Asset Groups drop down menus will appear on each screen once you have one or more groups created.
For example, you can quickly recall a set of assets into the Visualizer to see their data, by selecting the group name in the top of the left hand selector panel, as shown below:
Once selected, the panel is narrowed to just that set of assets, and you can then select your time frame, and other Visualizer options to explore your data easily.
Asset groups are also available in Utilization and Condition Monitoring reports in the Filters section, to help you quickly build and save reports for specific sets of equipment.
Groups also appear in the Dashboard, and narrow the focus of the statistics you see on the Dashboard to just that group of assets, and you can quickly switch between groups with the pull down menu in the upper right corner, as shown below:
Each user can select one of the existing asset groups to use as a "default" view in the application. This is not mandatory, and not selecting a favorite group will still allow you to use groups via the drop down menus in the Visualizer, Utilization, and Condition menus and Dashboard.
But many users are responsible for a set of equipment -- perhaps the instruments in their own labs, or equipment in a single building. In such cases, it is simple to create an Asset Group representing those devices, and then select that group as your "Favorite Group". Once each user does this, every time they log into the WattIQ system they'll see those devices by default on every screen, making it simple to track the items you care about most, even if you have hundreds or thousands of assets in the system.
NOTE: Asset Groups are not yet available in our legacy Energy reports in v4.20.0, but will be available in an upcoming release.
